The Future of Democracy

The Future of Democracy

We study how digitalization, algorithmic communication, and global challenges are shaping democracy, and create scenarios for the future of digital democracy.

A key challenge for effective policymaking and decision-making is identifying future risks and opportunities. Distinguishing benefits from harms is notoriously difficult. Future scenarios can help outline the key sociotechnical trends and patterns of a changing democracy. What impacts do algorithms have on democracy and social stability in light of demographic change, major global crises, digitalization, and technological development?
