Digital Democracy: Governance, Ethics and Tools

Digital Democracy: Governance, Ethics and Tools

We study opportunities and DemTech solutions for strengthening democratic practices by enabling the ethical and responsible use of AI in citizen engagement and decision-making.

In many societies, including Finland, people feel that in practice they have limited opportunities to influence decision-making. Research suggests that AI-based digital democracy technologies could strengthen citizen participation. However, public administration often lacks effective institutionalized practices for such citizen engagement. How could the potential of digital democracy be effectively harnessed in real-world decision-making practices?
